A year of transition but the future is bright!

The 2019/20 season was one of transition for the 2XV following a number of players stepping up to 1XV on the back of a successful 2018/19 season.

The 2XV competed in the Nottinghamshire RFU Security Plus Pennant Group 1 League which was slimmed down due to a number of voluntary relegations and it was hugely competitive.

Results were mixed with a number of teams showing significant improvement from the previous season including Paviors 2XV and West Bridgford 2XV with the ever strong Nottingham Medics finishing top. A league highlight was the 36-7 victory at home to Matlock 2XV, a number of club members could not remember the last time the 2XV had beaten Matlock!

Other highlights included beating Newark 2XV in their centenary fixture and two cup runs losing to Lincoln 2XV in one semi-final and reaching the final of another, beating Newark and Mansfield 2XV on the way. Unfortunately, the final was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

It was great to see several Colts step up to play senior rugby for the 1XV, 2XV and 3XV – a trend we hope to strengthen.

My thanks go to 2XV coaches Adam McQuilkin and Jeff Wilson who provided excellent guidance to the team throughout the season; all those that put a “2’s” shirt on; our Chairman Spud Smith (for his support on and off the pitch), Rick Johnson and other committee members. It’s important to recognise and thank those that volunteer to run our club.

Thank you to 2XV and club sponsors Gascoines and Miller Homes whose continued support is appreciated.

Turning to 2020/21 season, whilst preseason has been longer than normal, some excellent sessions have been delivered by Josh Barlow and Freddie Hunt which are very well attended. I am looking forward to this translating to a successful and enjoyable return to games when allowed for 1XV, 2XV and 3XV.

I look forward to seeing as many faces down at the club ready to train and play, old and new!
