Today Southwell and Ashfield U15s put on a show to match Fridays England vs Wales Six Nations encounter for excitement and commitment!

With three key Southwell players unavailable (with some excuse about having to play at Leicester Tigers), here was a chance for the rest of the team to step up against a solid, powerful running Ashfield side.

Within the first few minutes Ashfield broke through and ran down the line to score. Alarm bells started to ring! But Southwell's response was perfect as sustained pressure in the Ashfield half led to Josh forcing the ball over. Will P converted to make the score 7-5. Game on!

The match proceeded like a (well spirited) tug of war. Ashfield scored and converted next, with our reply coming from Jammo as he again impressively forced through to score.

Even stevens 12-12 at half time.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Ashfield scored first, but Will P broke through to score in the corner and then kicked a perfect conversion from the side line to make the score 19-17. It did feel like Southwell had a slight edge now, but Ashfield had a constant threat of breaking through. All of the Southwell players were making their presence count, committing to tackles and working well as a team.

Will P turned out to be our decisive factor as he kicked a penalty from a similar position to his earlier try conversion to take the score to 22-17 and now only minutes left on the clock. That did prove to be the final score.

Well done to all players from both sides, including George T and Josh who filled in the missing prop position in the Ashfield side and enabled those entertaining contested scrums to go ahead!
