Southwell U13 vs Market Rasen U13 - Sunday 23rd April
Final Score - Southwell U13 50-15 Market Rasen U13

After last week’s mauling at the hands of Ilkeston, we needed to see a response from the boys this morning as we welcomed Market Rasen to Park Lane. We had trained well on Thursday and were in
a positive frame of mind.

We were slightly hampered with a few late unavailabilities and the mood was dampened a little as the heaven’s opened just before kickoff. The rain had just about stopped in time for the game to go ahead and so Market Rasen kicked off and soon scored the first try of the game.

The boys woke themselves up and reacted strongly, playing some very good rugby. Harris Boothroyd ran half the length of the pitch, stepping the opposition on his way to score the try of the 1 st half. We got to the half time break firmly in control of the game after finding space in the wider areas following strong work up front and down the middle.

Despite being very wet and muddy the lads were buoyant at half time and came out in the second half and carried on where they left off.

There were so many strong performances (too many to mention) from many players having their strongest game of the season so far. We do have to mention Che Remnant who volunteered to turn his very wet and muddy shirt inside out, put it back on and help out Market Rasen when they had injury problems. He was brilliant and encouraged them as if he was one of them.

As already mentioned, we could have awarded Player of the Match to a number of players this morning. We eventually decided to award it to Patch Kelly for captaining so well, for playing out of position in the front row following the late cry offs, great runs with the ball and fabulous tackling throughout.

This morning has set us up nicely and we now look forward to the last game of the season, the NLD Vase Final at Derby RUFC against Nottingham Casuals.
